Left Hand Path are an odd Progressive Extreme Metal band from Cluj-Napoca, Romania that features current and ex-members of bands like Negura Bunget, Malpraxis, Marchosias, and the Hourglass. I use the term "Extreme" because even though they have a clear Death Metal base, their sound is too varied and strange to simply call it that. Their self-titled debut EP showcases complex, mid-tempo crawlers with plenty of demanding time signatures and technical musicianship with fairly standard death growls and some really impressive bass work. The closest comparison I can draw is to the more melodic and progressive tendencies of Soilwork, but really this band is doing its own thing, and it's a damn good thing at that. A promising debut. |
