Some split 7" releases are so-so, sometimes with mismatched bands, but Duality of the Unholy Existence brings two of Greek black metal's great together with one track each and they just flow flawlessly. Modern, refined, borderline majestic but without forgetting a pinch of rawness, both songs convey a similar atmosphere delivered with each band's strengths. Rotting Christ's song is eerier and more out there, while Varathron's is catchier and overall faster, but it's the subtle similarities between the two that make this so cool. I'm more of a Rotting Christ fan myself, but I'd be hard-pressed to pick one song over the other. Very cool little release. |
