Portuguese Melodic Death Metallers My Enchantment have been around for 20 years, yet it's been over 14 years since their debut album Sinphonic was released, with nothing else to show for themselves besides an EP released five years ago. While I can't speak for their previous output, I can say that their latest one, Saligia, is a fine piece of work. The music on here is heavy and vicious, but it also has an emphasis on keyboards to give the album a level of atmosphere that's often lacking in other bands. The band is tight and cohesive, and the growls and snarls of Alex Zander are one of the band's strongest assets. There's a fair bit of detail to the music too, and sometimes it all comes together to create some powerful moments as the album goes along. Fans who yearn for the early days of Melodic Death Metal before it was flooded with alt-rock bullshit will want to give this one a spin. |
