Sacrifice Your Future is the debut album from White Mantis and it's an album of thrash metal for the fan that has grown tired of the Bay Area and Germanic sounds glutting the genre. The vocals are a higher-pitched, yet still raspy scream and the riff work is frantically maniacal but tight as a drum and sharp as a tack. The drums and bass take heaps of abuse but always come back for more. White Mantis has some typically themed thrash tunes ("My Favourite Chainsaw" "Cannibal State") but isn't afraid to color outside the lines and get a bit creative ("There's No Law on the Post-Apocalyptic Highway" "Demonic Levity"). It took me a few spins to pin down a comparison for White Mantis and what Sacrifice Your Future evokes is the sometimes-uncompromising pace of early Megadeth mixed with the bludgeoning technicality of Coroner to my ears. You may hear other influences, but you won't be disappointed. |
