Review

This is Destruction's 11th full-length studio album (including the two Thrash Anthems albums) since their return in 2000, so the guys have been keeping busy. The albums haven't been consistently good, but usually had at least some redeeming qualities.

Born to Perish is amongst the good ones, reminding me a little bit of All Hell Breaks Loose in-your-face attitude. Schmier's distinctive vocals are still as effective, maybe even getting better with time as there are a lot of catchy, memorable vocal melodies here and he shows no signs of tiring. Since their return, Destruction's sound has been pretty "clean" in terms of thrash, not only from a production point of view but also from precise, skillful handling of their instruments. They kick it up a notch this time around, cranking up the speed and masterfully diverting into slower, more melodic parts before speeding up again, mostly to great effect. Not one bad track to be found here, and it's been a while since I had so much fun listening to a new Destruction album.
