Concrete Funeral hail from Calgary and play pretty decent thrash-infused death metal. It's fast and heavy with some really catchy bits here and there, some of it even having a bit of that "party," goofy vibe that some '80s thrash bands had (or, for a more recent reference, Municipal Waste). The guitar work is what gets me going with some really cool riffs, but the drummer sure knows how to punish the skins. It's not the greatest thing out there, but it's good while it's on and a lot of these songs are bound to make the crowd go nuts in a live setting. The vocals are kind of a modern-ish style of growls/screeches (they use both) and it took some getting used to, but they work well with the music. Certainly worth checking out. |
