I've been trying to pin down how I want to describe the music on Enter the Endless Abyss, the fourth album from Slovenia's Vigilance. The promo was described as black metal but the vocals, a bedeviled howl, are the only aspect that fit the genre. The music is much more traditional metal, with distinct riffs, melodic bass lines, clear drums and not an overwhelming use of blistering tempos. Hell, at the beginning of opening track "Blood and Black Lace" the guitars have a distinct '70s vibe (I kept hearing Ram Jam's "Black Betty" in the unkempt riffing) to say nothing of the creepy church organ at the beginning of "Dvoglava Kaca". So, I don't know, "occult black/speed" may be the best description I can come up with of Enter the Endless Abyss. Regardless, this shit is fun even if the songwriting doesn't vary a heck of a lot from song to song. That won't stop you from banging your head and shouting along with choruses like "Storm...BLADE!!!" If your heart gets pumping by the music of Bewitcher, Seax, BAT and that crowd, grab this one and throw up some horns. |
