Epic doom metal is what Poland's Monasterium offer up on their second album, Church of Bones. Their music is firmly in the Candlemass/Solitude Aeturnus camp with leaden rhythms and soaring, emotion-filled vocals. The whole album is solid and while none of the tracks is miles ahead of the others, there are no weak ones and the album never drags or gets boring. There's enough mid-tempo material to keep those not entirely into doom happy while allowing those that are to bask in somber atmospheres and fat, reverb-laden riffs. If you like '80s-style doom, this is definitely a record to add to the collection. |
