Sacrament is a new EP from Lvcifyre, a band we haven't heard much from since their second album, Svn Eater, from 2014. Sacrament is very much in the Svn Eater mold, raw and blasty with just a hint of melody. If there is one thing I have to give Lvcifyre credit for, it is sounding evil. There's no mistaking the bleak and forlorn vibe they are trying to cultivate. Unfortunately, that is all this music has going for it. The vocals feature a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth and the guitars are a sonic wall of hatred but there's not much in the way of emotion. I know this stuff is supposed to instill things like fear, hatred and despair but I don't really feel it when listening to Sacrament. Even the spoken-word bits are unintelligible which means I don't have much of an idea why I should feel those things in the first place. Be my guest if black/death is your thing but for me this goes by in a blur of noise. |
