Chilean Heavy/Power Metallers Eternal Thirst have been around since 2006 and have recorded four studio albums since 2014. They're certainly productive, I'll give them that, and with Purge the Bastards, I'll go ahead and say that's not a bad thing. This is pretty accessible NWOBHM that won't be ripping your ears off and yelling satanic incantations into them anytime soon, but it does call to mind the earlier releases from Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, and it does so pretty well. They try to add some identity to their sound, particularly with the piercing wails of vocalist Rodrigo Contreras, but really, they don't sound too different from a lot of NWOBHM bands working the scene today. Then again, this kind of thing is more about recapturing the magic of the '80s than revolutionizing the genre, and with songs like "Iron Walls", Eternal Thirst do just that. Simple, catchy, and completely safe, this is an album that fans of NWOBHM will want to give a chance. |
