Runemagick spent over ten years dormant, but in 2018 they re-emerged with their comeback album Evoked from Abysmal Sleep, and in true Runemagcick fashion are back again just over a year later with another full-length—with two singles, a split, and an EP in between. This was always a highly prolific band, who more than once released two full-length albums in the same year, so it is nice to see that their hiatus has not slowed them down.

One of the prototypical Doom/Death bands, Runemagick were always a bit more about the Death than the Doom, laying on crunchy riffs and guttural bellowing, and not including any of the almost-expected stigmata of modern Doom/Death like pianos or clean singing. With this band you just get a solid disc of heavy Death Metal with a slower pace and a lot of grim atmosphere. This does not sound much different from their last one, though I have to say I find the production a bit weaker, and the guitars don't have the heaviness I expected. If you are a Runemagick fan then this is an obvious purchase, but it's not a standout in their discography.
