I kind of recoiled the first time I heard this album as the singer's vocals are very loud and kind of overwhelming until you get used to that. She also has that amateurish—in a good way—garage style that was rather common back in the '80s. And, you know what, that's a perfect fit for the songs on Myth, Magic & Steel since the album is full of '80s-style metallic cheese. It has that very upbeat vibe that just begs for singalongs with fists in the air and some headbanging bound to mess up a few necks. Fast, pounding heavy metal, clean in sound but raw in execution, Savage Master nail the old-school style perfectly. Whether or not that was intentional matters not: This is a lot of fun. |
