Ruin Lust are yet another Black/Death/Something band with a weak guitar tone and songs that sound more or less the same. The vocals are an undistinguished roar that's mixed far back to sound like an echo but comes across more like it's coming from the shower, the guitars are mostly fuzzy tremolo picking, and the drums bash along at hyper speed. There are times where they slow down, as on "Mirrors of Broken Blood", and these bits actually have some compelling riffs and atmosphere, but on an album that's under 30 minutes, they don't come often enough. Passable, but forgettable. |
