Love Me Like a Reptile is a short (and with four songs clocking in at just over seven minutes, I mean short) EP from Cleveland's Nekrofilth that contains both metal and punk covers. The punk tracks ("Media Person" by Rudimentary Peni and "Det är upp till oss" by Mob 47) are each less than a minute in length and sound like standard punk cuts, cacophonous and repetitious, made more filthy (pun intended) by Nekrofilth's brand of angry, raw black/thrash while the Mortician cover of "Zombie Apocalypse" is a plodding, doomy cut. The real reason to own this is the cover of Motorhead's "Love Me Like a Reptile". Nekrofilth do a great job of capturing the hybrid punk/metal feel of this classic song with its speed and melody and the harsher vocals don't detract, they simply add a little uniqueness vs. sounding exactly like the original. They even get Lemmy's fat Rickenbacker bass sound and allow it to carry the rhythm guitar duties during the solo, just like Lemmy used to do. So, there you have it; the cover of "Love Me Like a Reptile" is very good while the other three songs are throwaways. Motorhead completists will need this as will fans of decent covers but few others. |
