Anyone who's read my reviews over the years should know that I think Crossover Thrash can be a beautiful thing when done properly, and thankfully Russian four-piece Impress do just that on their third album, Fortress. The lyrics are all in Russian, so I don't know what they're about, but I do know that this album is all about head-stomping riffs, explosive rhythms, and angst-ridden attitude, which is pretty much all I ask for in my Crossover. There's nothing exactly new here, but Impress do have a sound of their own and do it well enough to, well, impress. For a longtime fan of the genre like myself, that really means something. |
