Featuring members from Visceral Disgorge and Whisteria Cottage, Book of the Dead are a Death Metal act from Maryland that's here to cut you in half with their debut EP Bound in Flesh, Inked in Blood. This band combines technicality with brutality and a strong melodic sensibility in a manner that recalls bands like Carcass, Vital Remains, and At the Gates. Vocalist Mike Gomegys stands out with his mix of grunts and Dani Filth-esque shrieks throughout the album, and when mixed with some captivating melodies and layered, complex songwriting, it creates a sound that really stands out from the pack. This is a release that should appeal to any fan of more technical and melodic Death Metal, and it signals the arrival of a band to watch. |
