EphemeraL are a recently-formed melodic death metal band from Greece and the melodies on their album VII (they call it an EP, but at 38+ minutes, I call it an album) are not bad, the sound is good and they've tackled a pretty hefty subject in the seven deadly sins. The songs lack some of the punch I was expecting, instead the band has opted for a more accessible approach. The vocals are too screamy, though, and they sound a little like Linkin Park, which is fine if you like Linkin Park, but not so much if you are looking for more traditional death metal. I found myself at times getting into what EphemeraL was doing while at others wondering what I was listening to. This may have some appeal to the adventurous fan, but traditionalists might not care for it as much. |
