Blood Red Throne have been making brutal, uncompromising Death Metal since 1998, and this, their ninth full-length album, is no exception to that rule. They've been getting steadily more complex and polished with each release, and here they've injected their sound with some deceptively complex and varied arrangements, making this album akin to a faster and more nuanced Torture Killer this time around. Don't mistake that for calling this self-indulgent, however, as this band is still all about making shameless, aggressive Death Metal that'll get any fan's blood pumping. Rather, you really get the sense listening to this that after all these years, the band still gets excited about the music they're making, only now they approach it with a mastery and ambition that most bands never achieve and use it to further their sound while staying true to what they've always been about. Norwegian Death Metal at its finest. |
