Sometimes, I can look at a band's name and just know they're going to suck, and boy do Pedophile Priests suck. Let's glance over the uninspired groove riffs and the drumming that sound like it's playing for another song and get to what really makes Cancer a fitting title for this album: the vocals. They alternate between an awful sort of bellow that sounds like a bulldog with a smoking problem and an awful piercing scream which sounds like somebody sat on a tack in the recording booth, all peppered with the occasional bit of iffy clean singing that does nothing to elevate the proceedings. Even when this band conjures a decent riff or some cool melody, as on "Children of the Transformation" and "Przeminela", they're always drowned out by the vocals going OOR OOR OOR or YAAAAGGGGHHHHH in a pitch so high my sleeping dog heard it while I had earbuds on. This could maybe be overlooked if the songwriting were at least interesting, but honestly, the only time it catches my attention is when they go into a passable acoustic section or on the horrendous "Pedophile Priests" where they use the screams to symbolize exactly what you'd expect them to based on the song title. I get they were doing that to make the song uncomfortable and horrific, but they really just end up making it irritating and tasteless. Frankly, that's also how I'd summarize the album overall. Bleagh.
