Warbringer have been thrashing for many years now, one of the forerunners of the so-called thrash revival way back in the mid 2000s and have been pretty consistent since their first album. Weapons of Tomorrow sees them staying the course and delivering solid thrash from start to finish. It looks like they had more to say this time around: their previous albums were all around the 40-minute mark, whereas this one is over 50 minutes. For a while I thought they were doing the length thing on purpose. ;) This album is largely what I expected from the band: Warbringer's brand of thrash is still straightforward, "clean", with crystal-clear production and precision playing that sets them apart from those thrash bands that have appeared in recent years with a more old school, rawer and looser approach. The harsh, screechy but decipherable vocals fit the style like a glove and the vocalist does a good job of leading the way with the instruments in tow with his punishing delivery. Lots of catchy riffs and some solos that sweep you off your feet make most of the album fun and some of these songs leave a lasting impression. Weapons of Tomorrow is Warbringer doing their thing and doing it well and even better than they've done for a while. They've outlasted a lot of the thrash revival bands and, with an album like this, it looks like there's more good things to come from the Californian fellows. |
