I found Divine Weep's last album, Tears of the Ages, pretty average so I wasn't sure what I was going to get when the band sent me their latest, The Omega Man. It's actually a nice step forward for this Polish outfit. The playing is tighter, the aggression is more focused, and they sound like this time they truly mean business. The music is fast, sharp and aggressive, spending much of the album right in your face and there's a dark vibe that instead of making The Omega Man sound like modern, down-tuned crap, gives the songs a gravity that is hard to ignore. I think there is more to be done on the songwriting front as there aren't any standout tracks, but I don't recall any that I wanted to skip, either. A synthesis of Vicious Rumors and Sanctuary was what came to mind as I listened to The Omega Man and if that sounds like it might be up your alley, give Divine Weep a listen. |
