This is some pretty catchy modern (in a good way) thrash metal. The vocal style is slightly harsh, but clean and there's no deciphering necessary, not unlike what you'd hear from the likes of Slayer. Their style is quite aggressive but there's also tons of melody in here that cranks up the catchiness factor and that seeps into the occasional cool guitar solo. The riffage is heavy and razor-sharp and it's hard to stay still while listening to this. The song "Death Takes Us All" sounds like Slayer's "God Hates Us All", especially the vocal style and melodies that sound lifted right off that song. The song isn't bad, though I could do without being reminded of that period in Slayer's history. ;) Hades Rising doesn't contain anything you haven't heard before, but it's a solid album of clean, fast, heavy and crunchy modern thrash and those crunchy riffs and melodies warrant repeated listens. |
