I thought these guys were from France as several parts of the album remind me of French black metal in the early 2000s. Bythos play melodic, dark, gloomy and mostly slow black metal that just pins the listener down. This is cold, crushing stuff that reeks of evil, yet delivered with beautiful, soothing and entrancing melodies. No, this does not mean it's wimpy—it's just beautifully evil. The vocals are a great match, often dragging along with the music and giving you a sense of hopelessness. "Omega Dragon" is a bit of an outlier as it is catchy and has a good memorable beat to it—it's been stuck in my head since I heard it for the first time months ago. This seems to be their only release since forming in 2015, and it will certainly be interesting to see if they can do better than The Womb of Zero in the future. |
