With a name like Izengard, I was expecting some fantasy-themed power metal or maybe pounding epic metal, but this is actually melodic heavy metal with mid-tempo songwriting of a style that in a different time would be considered "radio-friendly." The guitars are somewhat restrained and the keys rounding out the sound are a tad syrupy at times. The songs are generic melodic metal though "Angel Heart" breaks the mold to some extent as it closes out the album with quite a bit of variety. Inoffensive is how I would describe Angel Heart while it is on, as there is nothing to hate but by the same token, nothing to really love either. If you like Masterplan, Fifth Angel or the Joe Lynn Turner era of Rainbow, this might be worth looking into.
