Running from the Dawn is a 4-song EP from Lethal Steel a band that plays a loose, energetic style of traditional metal that shares a vibe with NWOBHM bands like Grim Reaper, Tank and Raven. It is a little less epic than their debut (Legion of the Night from 2016) but retains the gruff, clear vocals and chugging guitars combining to create the kind of fist-pumping metal you had back in the '80s when the metal movement was first finding its footing. It isn't revolutionary and the songs aren't as memorable as some on Legion of the Night, but it still makes you want to throw a fist in the air or grab the air guitar with the way it captures the vibe of the early '80s when most purchases were blind and the excitement you felt when you got home, took off the shrink wrap and plopped down the needle was a big part of the experience. There are bands writing better and catchier songs, but they don't always get the "feel" that Lethal Steel does. |
