Released back in 2013, Lantern's debut Below is a pretty solid example of why sometimes it's better to decorate the wheel rather than reinvent it. There's nothing surprising in how the band approaches its Black/Death blasting, but they do at least give it a murky production which makes the whole thing have a subterranean feel that helps it stand out, and some of the lead work on this is pretty killer. Outside of that, if you've heard any Blackened Death Metal band with rumbling riffage and barked vocals, then you've heard this album, but it's still a well above-average album for all that. Worth checking out. |
