Just being a Death/Thrash band from Sweden means you have some work to do, as there is so much competition, past and present, to even stand out. Plus you have a high standard to measure up to, as when you are in the same field as The Crown, then you'd better be good. Fortunately, Carnosus are good. This is an album of solid if not original Death/Thrash with a ton of aggression, sharp playing, and a surprising amount of melody in the compositions. Carnosus hit all the expected marks, with a heavy guitar sound and pummeling riffs, but the leads surprised me with the degree of sheer musicality on display, and the songs are all energetic and never settle for just getting it done. This band is not doing anything new, but they are doing what they do fucking right. |
