There are a couple of albums by this band (one of many named Outrage) here, but I'd never heard them before I got this compilation of demos dating all the way back to 1985. I was expecting the sound to be atrocious, given the time and genre, but this is actually not bad at all—at least if you don't mind a raw, unpolished sound that's sometimes a bit muddy. I started listening to metal around that time and would probably have freaked out if I had heard this stuff back then. This is rather minimalistic blackened thrash on the heavy side, with gnarly, raspy vocals that feel right at home with that music. The heavy metal influence is quite audible in a lot of the guitar work, especially when it comes to the solos. A few bit and pieces remind me of early Celtic Frost. For a compilation of demos, I was agreeably surprised and have been spinning this album for a while and just rocking the fuck out along with it. |
