This is a relatively new band from Italy, and this is their second full-length of melodic metal goodness. Black Phantom walk a line between the classic NWOBHM sound and the more modern Hellenic True Metal stylings of their countrymen like Wotan or Doomsword. Black Phantom have a real knack for classic, catchy riffs, and while their songwriting is traditional, it's never boring. The vocalist has a high, vibrato-heavy voice, somewhat like Wotan's Vanni Ceni, and he has a lot of charisma and energy that helps carry these songs. The production is a little thin, and I'd like if it had more depth to it, but it gets the job done. Overall this is a really promising album from a young band on the way up. |
