Bloodfeast Ritual are a Californian band who play their Death Metal the Florida way on their debut EP. Chunky riffs, technical playing, and vicious raspy barks make up the majority of their sound, but they also display fistfuls of melodic leads that have more of a Trad sensibility to them that helps the band stand out, particularly on the first two tracks. The rest of the album is more standard and less engaging, but has enough precise musicianship and relentless brutality to keep fans of the style happy. The only real drawback is when vocalist David Ainsworth dips into his Metalcore roots and employs a shitty shriek in a few places, and he'd be better off ditching it entirely. Nothing revelatory, but it's a lot of fun. |
