This band has been around for a long time but boasts a spotty recording history with only three albums in the last 35+ years. I remember the self-titled debut from back in the '80s as the cover art was pretty distinctive, but I couldn't tell you what the band sounded like. 2020 is the year we get their third full-length, Destroy All Humans. I was pleasantly surprised by the epic and progressive metal that greeted my ears. The album has a great sound with plenty of room for the songs to fill up space and be loud and aggressive without being oppressive. The title track is a barnburner with a beefy riff and some good vocal lines in the vein of Omen but then you have "The Ledge" which is more late-80s Maiden with those almost ethereal guitar tones and Dickinsonian choruses. The whole album is smartly written and entertaining. Good stuff from a long-standing band that should appeal to fans of Maiden, Sanctuary and the like. |
