Forgotten Tomb have not gone fully back to the goth-wankery of Under Saturn Retrograde, but they still cannot seem to entirely purge the goth-pop sound from their songwriting. Other bands can maybe get away with more of this, but given the hideously bleak and raw style of their early albums, it will always be disappointing to find it here. This late in their career, the band seems to have settled on a compromise, with a harsher guitar tone and raw vocals mixed with the more accessible riffs and somewhat pedantic song structures. This isn't harsh enough to satisfy the DSBM fans, and not nearly hooky enough to attract goth refugees. Pass. |
