Black Sun is an Ecuadorean band that's been around for 20+ years but with a somewhat spare discography; three full-lengths, a couple of singles, a split and their 2020 release, an EP by the name of Silent Enemy. Seems as though their most recent singer left the band in 2019 so they rounded up a number of well-known names to complete Silent Enemy including Noora Louhimo, Tony Kakko and Mr. Lordi plus a host of other Finns to play guitars, drums etc. (plus a few non-Finns like Henning Basse). This gives Silent Enemy something of an odd flow as it doesn't appear to have been written specifically with other vocalists in mind (like Avantasia, for example) but has some solid songs like "Resist", which has a Chastain vibe, and "Terror Zone", with a more European power metal sound. The guitar sound is excellent, but the production is only average, so Black Sun's performances aren't as fist-pumping as this music is meant to be. I like it well enough while it is on but can't remember much about it when it isn't. Short and a little uneven musically on one hand, strong guitar work and star-studded vocals on the other, that's Silent Enemy in a nutshell. |
