I think I'm just about ready to give up on these guys. They had their good years, but their change to melodic death metal made them go from different to just "one of those bands", and many of them are just doing this sound better. That's not to say that there aren't some good moments on the album, but even those are nothing to write home about—they just happen to be remarkable because the rest is so bland or even kind of annoying, the band once again going for a more commercial approach on some songs that might appeal to those who like whatever is being advertised in bigger outlets, but will just get on any self-respecting metalhead's nerves. It's too bad, because at times you can still hear some leftovers from times long past but, as it is, Unconquered just doesn't offer any compelling reason to listen to it other than the name of the band that released it. |
