Third album from Sardinian Black/Death horde Gôr Mörgûl, and it's a merciless blast of the good stuff in the vein of Krisiun and Behemoth, but with even more blasting. No breaks, no innovation, no mercy, just endless sound and fury that's given weight thanks to the blistering drumming prowess of "Arcona" Piras. Well, ok, they break the breakneck pace up a little with the Behemoth-esque "Portal to Underworld" and the calmer sections of the otherwise face-ripping album closer "Extinction", and I'd like to hear more of those next time, as the relentless speed and aggression take away some of the identity from the rest of the songs. Outside of that, this is Black/Death done with brutality that exceeds the need for novelty made by a band that's worth keeping your eye on in the future. |
