Polish Death Metal mongers Manipulation have been kicking since the early 2000s, but while I can't speak for their previous output, I can say that Mind Control Ultra is an aggressive frenzy of unorthodox technicality that reminds me a lot of similarly technical acts like Origin and Immolation. Outside of the bizarre sound effects and robotic narration of "Skull with Acid in Eye", this is a lightning-speed bombardment of severe and complex Death Metal accentuated with keyboards and built upon strange harmonies and fast, unusual breaks that'll take more than a single listen to properly digest. The playing is tight and razor-sharp, with skin-basher Kriss giving an intense and hyperactive performance that would rival that of Animal from the legendary act Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, and the band even slows down in places to create a nightmarish atmosphere that helps break up the blasting ferocity enough to give it some real identity. If you prefer your Death Metal on the intricate side, this is definitely worth checking out. |
