I have this band's 1984 debut, Fist Held High, on vinyl but it's been many years since I listened to it. The band released a few albums after that, starting in 2002, but I haven't kept up with them at all. Harvest of Souls is really cool in that it really captures the spirit of '80s U.S. heavy metal while somehow sounding modern. The music here is catchy and kind of party-ish, without sounding silly, and it's a little cheesy on the side while not sounding silly. The powerful vocals just invite you to sing along with infectious melodies that grab you on the first listen. Add to that a heavy, punchy modern production that really delivers a clear, powerful and crisp sound. Harvest of Souls leaves you with a feeling of an '80s album that nonetheless doesn't sound like the band has been stagnating. A sure bet for fans of old-school heavy metal. |
