There's nothing pretty about Table of Uncreation, but that's to be expected from this long-running USBM band. The album is for the most part crushingly slow, making a snail look like a F1 racing car—OK, maybe not that slow, but you get the idea. The vocals are dark and evil sounding as fuck and guaranteed to freak the hell of out the uninitiated within hearing distance. The album just drones along and almost sounds like noise at times, but without getting annoying. The whole album reeks of malevolence and some of this stuff would work really well as the soundtrack of some creepy suspense horror movie that shows you nothing and lets your imagination do the honours. Table of Uncreation is nothing like your "typical" black metal—if there's such a thing—and will be an acquired taste for most; I find it works really well when you're in the darkest of moods and don't want to get out of it. |
