My impression a few seconds first listening to East of Sun was not a favourable one as the first vocal lines that came on sounded kind of iffy. Fortunately, that quickly corrected (or my ears corrected themselves ;)) and things got better. This is epic heavy metal to the core; some bands lose that vibe at some point in their album, but Gatekeeper have done a great job setting the momentum and keeping it up. It's hard not to get drawn in by the grandiose style of the compositions, with both the music and vocals really sucking you in and making you want to play all your air instruments simultaneously. While some songs are more sombre and solemn, for the most part this is very upbeat stuff that will get the foot tapping and the fist held high up. Good stuff. |
