Despite there being several interviews with In Malice's Wake here at The Metal Crypt, this is my first time hearing them and this yet another case of having that dreadful feeling that I've been missing out. This is great thrash that's firmly rooted in the old school while sounding very actual, so you get the best of both worlds here. The band does an excellent job of combining aggressiveness with catchiness and fun. It's not one of those "party thrash" bands, but it still comes off as fun, just in a different way. Razor-sharp guitars and fast pounding drums will sweep you off your feet, and the vocals make me think of what modern Exodus vocals would sound like if they didn't have that misplaced anger that pretty much ruined that band's return for me. It's a harsh style that still manages to make you want to sing along (don't worry; I won't) and add to the incisive delivery of the music. Kids, stand back and listen. This is how it's done. |
