Debut for this French band, who are definitely going to turn some heads. Doom is not usually a genre you get from France, but this is some strong stuff, without the expected Sabbathisms or wanna-be-retro styling. This draws a good bit from Swedish Doom, but it really has a distinct style, much more uptempo and aggressive than anything moody or brooding. The production is rock-solid, and vocalist "Frater Arnhwald" is a real standout, with a powerful tone, good range, and a lot of charisma. With the addition of some organ sounds, Gregorian samples, and a real epic vibe, this is a debut worth checking out. |
