Sorceress of Sin is a new band, forming in the U.K. officially in 2020 but with the members knowing each other prior to that year. Their debut album is called Mirrored Revenge and combines some different flavors under a power metal umbrella. Rough and tumble metallic anthems, like the crunchy, Chastain-esque "Vixen of Virtue," dot the track listing along with more operatic cuts like "Echoes of Existence." Vocalist Lisa Skinner is a talent and handles the wide range of styles well. From a songwriting standpoint, it sounds like Sorceress of Sin is experimenting a bit to see what works and what doesn't, understandable from a new entity. Listening to Mirrored Revenge reminded me of Nightwish's first album where the band was casting about for their sound a bit before settling on the marriage of operatic vocals and turn-of-the-millennium power metal that served the Finnish legends so well. Sorceress of Sin has that same vibe, right down to spoken word passages on "Parallel Lines" that had me thinking of "Elvenpath" from Nightwish's debut. Mirrored Revenge is a solid first effort from a band that has the potential to deliver something special if they can take the next step.
