How's that for a weird band name? I almost skipped on this, thinking it was probably some experimental outfit. Nooope. This is raw black metal that mixes first- and second-wave black metal, mixing a hint of early Celtic Frost with the rawer stuff from the early to mid-90s—I'm reminded of early Darkthrone at times. The sound is much clearer than I would have expected, and those guitars just rip the speakers to pieces. It's a grinding, razor-sharp style that makes it sound like it's slicing away at everything. The vocals are right out of the abyss, contributing to the threatening, demonic vibe of the music. My big beef with this release is that it's way too short because I could really use a full album of this stuff. |
