Unblessed Divine are an international project with members from Poland and South America, most notably former Malevolent Creation singer Lee Wollenschlaeger and former Sinister guitarist Micha? Grall. They describe themselves as Atmospheric Death Metal, but that mostly just means mid-paced Death Metal mixed in with some synths. That might make you think they make the music more Symphonic, but instead the band opts to use them to create minimalistic Industrial melodies and sound effects to complement the bludgeoning riffs and bloodthirsty roars found throughout. I'm normally suspicious of any amount of Industrial influence, but rather than rendering the music artificial and boring, it adds a cold, foreboding atmosphere to the music that helps it stand out from the thousands of acts content with aping Entombed and Morbid Angel for the umpteenth time. The individual songs don't have too much identity, and the ending track is a pointless keyboard outro, but overall this serves as a promising debut from a band of well-established veterans looking to do things a little differently. |
