This is a reissue of this cult classic from Imperator, an early Polish death metal band. It's very raw and crude and even kind of sloppy, but in a good way. It's one of those albums where you can practically see the band just getting their act together and just enjoying the hell out of playing their music, where attitude makes up for shortcomings. The sound is a little bit muffled and sometimes echoes, and that actually helps crank up the evil and dark vibe that can be felt throughout, so that worked in their favour. Sometimes a more amateurish production just works, and this is one of those times. The vocals tend to be more of the "harsh thrash" style than death growls, so a lot of the lyrics are decipherable. The Time Before Time is overall chaotic and all over the place and feels disjointed, but I can't say I heard a bad song on it. A cool little find. |
