I wasn't impressed with the band's single, Dødskamp, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, this turned out to simply be a good album of Norwegian black metal, just the way I like them (well, one variant anyway...) On The Infernal Pathway, 1349 mix things up with some speedy, blasting black metal that so many of their countrymates and neighbours in Sweden have done over the years, and also throwing in a healthy dose of blackened thrash when they decide to hit the brakes. No matter how they're delivering it, the album feels like a bullet train of hate from beginning to end. It even sounds borderline sloppy at times and that gives the music even more of a badass edge, and those vocals complete the ensemble with a demonic delivery. This is one for repeated listens. |
