Vincent Crowley is a well-known figure in the underground, both for his activity with the Church of Satan back in the day and for being a part of several bands over the decades such as Nocturnus, Wolfen Society, and especially Acheron. When he finally put the latter project to rest, it seemed like it'd be the last we'd hear from him, but lo and behold, we have a new project using the Vincent Crowley name, here joined by Shrine of Suffering guitarist Art Taylor and former Blood Coven drummer Ryan Arter. Rather than the Black/Death savagery of Acheron, this demo presents a very moody and atmospheric variant of Doom/Death that focuses more on creating sinister, almost sorrowful melodies than straight aggression. I say Doom/Death, but that's mostly due to the slow tempo and creepy atmosphere of the music, otherwise it's kind of difficult to put this demo under any one label. Regardless of how you label it, the bottom line is that even decades later, Vincent Crowley is capable of successfully introducing a new band that's as macabre as it is unique, and it speaks well for their upcoming conceptual debut, Beyond Acheron. Welcome back, Mr. Crowley.
