Duskwalker are a Death Metal act from Canada that started life as The Offspring before they changed their name to avoid legal issues, so while All They Know is Fear is their debut under the new name, it's technically the band's second album. They claim to be Death/Thrash, but I don't hear much of the latter in this, which is mostly mid-paced Death Metal with chunky riffs, bellowing vocals, and a dense atmosphere of Lovecraftian horror that hovers over it all. While the Death Metal chugging is all quite good, the band shines when they experiment a bit with traditional-style riffing, moody acoustic sections, and even some dramatic clean singing backed by whacked out falsettos, all of which really adds to the general feeling of cosmic horror the album is going for. I can't say every idea they throw in works, with the falsettos in particular being a bit silly in spots, but when they do come together on tracks like "Dyatlov Pass" and the crawling "Master of Vril", it makes for a fairly novel sound that's retro and modern all at once. Not to be missed.
