Sect of Vile Divinities is no departure from what Incantation have been doing for a while. Depending on where you stand, that may be a good or a bad thing. Overall, I like the album largely because it is kind of uneventful. I can just kick back and listen to this attentively or as background music and it gets the job done. While it has its speedy-ish passages, it's mostly slow to mid-paced and with a muddy, sometimes crushingly heavy backdrop and a matching atmosphere of doom and gloom. No real high or lows here, the album just chugs along for 45 minutes without making waves. On some days that's just the thing I need.
