Holdlajtorja (I think that roughly means Moonbird, but that's probably not right) are a Hungarian act working in that vein of Black Metal that really just wants to be Pink Floyd for some reason. The music is very laid-back and has some alright ideas, but the songwriting itself is aimless and indulgent to the extreme, with riffs that just diddle along and songs that meander and eventually go nowhere before the songs just decide to stop. There are some minor folk elements here and there that are interesting, but they never seem to be used for any reason besides "just because". Actually, that appears to be the main songwriting ethos at play, and since this is supposed to advertise an upcoming full-length, I doubt that's going to change anytime soon. This isn't offensively bad, but it never wants to get to the point, if it even has one. |
